Northcote Uniting Church Hall
This Victorian building measuring 19 x 14 x 6 meters has good basic proportions but notorious acoustics due to its parallel wall. It is used frequently by many community groups and one of them contacted me with a view to doing something about it. I measured the critical radius and reverb characteristics and came up with a plan using specially made high density hollow fiber material.
We hung 120 Kg of this material in two runs, total surface area 48 Sq M which halved the reverb time, corrected the EQ and increased the critical radius to over 2 meters.
The result is now a Hall with beautiful acoustics for Choir, small ensemble and moderate PA use, where the inevitable background conversation is now a muted whisper rather than the previous roar. Audience members report a huge increase of intelligibility, degree of relaxation and enjoyment. This was undertaken as a community project and the total cost of materials for this transformation was only $1600. Ridiculously cheap, and alarmingly effective.

Bluetongue
is a high end games development company that needed two new studios built for mixing 5.1 projects for PS3 , Wii and the other new platforms that support surround.
There was a need to keep most of the existing office building fit-out intact, and so we came up with the novel plan of incorporating the acoustic panels into the structure of the building.
Twenty custom designed reversible panels were made giving a hugely variable acoustic treatment.
The set up time for one studio for the 20 panels is about 30 minutes.
The room was also treated with above roof traps and double doors as you might expect in a normal studio.
Results exceeded expectations so far.
