Harry was a founder member of the Green Party in the UK in 1974. He wrote
about the coming energy crisis, now with us in earnest, outlined methods of
harvesting sustainable energy from the air, sea and land. these included
windmills ( he erected one near his house but had to take it down for planning
reasons) wave and tide power and willow woodchip gas powered steam turbines.
He inspired Richard MacPhail to join with others and start the UK longest
lasting energy saving consultancy, now in it’s 30th year. They developed
software to estimate and optimise energy savings for the UK’s councils and private
citizens alike. They can be reached at
Harry is now consultant on a number of Environmentally Sustainable building
projects and is researching the possibilities of active solar heating and
cooling for houses and institutions in Australia.
His current projects in this area include
the Gryphon in Elwood (a sculptural house designed to challenge our view of the
possibilities of city living), and an apartment/warehouse block in Fitzroy, as
well as an experimental building he is completing in country Victoria.
